Yet you will hear none of that from the media. How much of what is reported by the people is actually true or just rumors is for you to decide, but in the age of the internet I prefer to have both new sources to listen too and make my own decisions.
There's plenty of discussion on whether race plays an issue in the response time to the disaster in the south. The area is predominantly a black area.
One could look at a scenario that could have occurred in relation to the 17th Street Levee in New Orleans. Evacuees report hearing bomb like sounds from the area, authorities claim a barge hit the levee and caused the break.

"Raw transcript of comments by NOLA evacuee Clara Barthelemy: The 17th street levee was bombed by the Army Corps of Engineers to save the more valuable real estate in the city to keep the French Quarter protected, the ninth ward was sacrificed, people are afraid to speak out, everyone who was near there heard the bombings, they bombed seven times. That's why they didn't fix the levees, 20 feet of water. Gators. People dying in water. They let the parishes go, not the city center. Tourist trap was saved over human life."

This information is all based on what people in the city say, so take it with a grain of salt, but imagine if this is really what happened. Blowing a hole in the levee to save the tourist district and the rich homes while flooding the middle and lower income areas with up to 20 feet of water. You decide.

Then there's the idea of who is to blame for the slowness in response time for emergency personal to arrive in the areas affected by the hurricane. I think we should finish the recovery and rebuilding and worry about who to blame later. Let's help the people that need our help first.

Places to make donations and express your support.

The Red Cross

The Salvation Army

Auctions Askew
If you don't know what this is, click it and find out!

Places to go to for information

Federal Emergency Management Agency

Jacob Appelbaum's weblog
Weblog created to document his trip to the areas affected by hurricane Katrina.

Slideshow: New Orleans floods
Slideshow of pictures of flooding in New Orleans

Clicking Katrina
A site on MSNBC detailing many sites with info on the disaster in the south due to the Hurricane.

The Interdictor
A weblog from a bunch of people holding down the fort in New Orleans at the DirectNIC building.

NOLA.com T-P Orleans Parish Breaking Newsblog

FEMA Failures
Blaming Bush
NOTE: I am not a Republican, Democrat, or Independent. I'm almost 30 years old and I still don't know what I want to with my life.
I currently work in the IT field, but somehow it's starting to lose its interest to me. Don't get me wrong, technology will always interest me, it's what I currently do in the field that is starting to bore me.
There are other things that interest me still as well. I'm a hands on type of person, I like to take things apart. I enjoy taking things apart and putting them together (well almost, probably the reason why I have 2 half together vehicles in my garage). I'd love to go back to school to learn something else.
I think i'd like to be a chef or work in some other filed in IT (Servers, Linux Admin), anything except PC support. I do so much work and do I get any recognition for it, nope. Oh well.
Maybe I could work in automobile restoration, that might be fun too. Oh well, that's all for now.
